The Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) is the association behind this lottery. The Powerball lottery is one of the largest multi-state lotteries in the United States, being played in 43 states and is Americas favorite lottery.
A new world record was set on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 when the Powerball lottery reached an unprecedented $2.05 Billion, being won by a single ticket purchased in California.
On January 13, 2016, Powerball also produced the second largest lottery jackpot in history, with the $1,586,000,000 jackpot being split between 3 tickets. Previous to this jackpot was in May, 2013 with a jackpot of $590,500,000. The Powerball game evolved from Lotto*American, and the first draw was on April 22, 1992.
To play, one chooses 6 numbers (5 main numbers, and 1 Powerball number). Starting on August 23, 2021 draws are also occurring on Mondays. The draws are held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
